2025 was another incredible year for horror, an absolute embarrassment of riches (check our picks for best horror movies of the year). Horror fans have been quite spoiled in the last several years with this bountiful feast of features. Erotic thrillers have come back into fashion, monster movies are on the rise, witches are back in business in a big way, and “fun” horror has made a full-on comeback. As we reflect on our favorites from this year, we're also looking forward to some major new horror movies releasing in 2026. There are tons of confirmed titles on this list, with more to come.
January is starting off strong with killer monkey horror Primate, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Return To Silent Hill, and Sam Raimi's Send Help. Those aren't even the only new horror titles dropping in the first month of 2026!
Lee Cronin's The Mummy (not to be confused with The Mummy 4) will make its way to the big screen in April, and the latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise from the very promising French director Sébastien Vaniček will be seared into our eyeballs this summer. We have a long way to go before the December release of Robert Eggers' latest, Werwulf , but we'll have some solid fare like Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! and Aztec horror Whistle to more than satiate our appetite in the months ahead.
Here's a complete list of all the new horror movies coming out in 2026. We'll be updating this list frequently, so use this as your trusty guide to all the upcoming new horror movies all year long. Enjoy!
New Horror Movie Release Dates for 2026
-
We Bury The Dead - January 2
WE BURY THE DEAD (Credit: Vertical) We have at least 7 brand new horror movies dropping in January alone. The year starts off strong with We Bury The Dead. After a successful festival run (including taking home Best Feature Film at the Sitges Film Festival), We Bury The Dead is hitting US theaters. Daisy Ridley stars in the zombie horror that centers on a catastrophic military disaster that causes the dead to rise. While the government insists the zombies are totally harmless, Ridley's character uncovers a much more dangerous and violent truth.
Primate - January 9
PRIMATE (Credit: Paramount Pictures) Primate opened up 2025's Fantastic Fest and I think it's safe to say it was way gnarlier than any of us anticipated. Killer monkey horror with practical FX and gory kills, this is one of those screaming in the theater deals and a hell of a lot of fun. Directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey At Night), it's cleverly a high concept idea delivered as a bit of a chamber piece as a family attempts to escape a rabid chimpanzee.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - January 16
O'Connell and DaCosta on the set of 28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE//MIYA MIZUNO/COLUMBIA PICTURES The follow up to the wildly successful (and Chainsaw Award nominated) 28 Years Later thankfully didn't make us wait too long. This time Nia DaCosta (Candyman) is in the director's chair, following the aftermath of 28 Years Later. Returning cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Jack O'Connell, and Alfie Williams. Cillian Murphy executive produces and reprises his role as Jim from the 2002 original, Alex Garland also returns as the screenwriter, and with this lineup we have every reason to believe this is going to be a 2026 favorite.
Night Patrol - January 16
NIGHT PATROL (Credit: RLJE Films) Vampire cops? We're in. Scream king Justin Long proves he's got the chops to be an action star in Ryan Prows' Night Patrol. When an LAPD officer discovers a local police task force is endangering the projects where he grew up, things get bloody. The DNA of '90s action flicks flows heartily through this one.
Return to Silent Hill - January 23
RETURN TO SILENT HILL (Credit: Cineverse) Return To Silent Hill is a direct adaptation of Konami's 2001 psychological horror game classic Silent Hill 2. Director Christophe Gans returns to the foggy town after helming 2006's Silent Hill, which was a blend of the first three games in the series.
Mother Of Flies - January 23
MOTHER OF FLIES (Credit: Shudder) The Adams family (Hellbender, The Deeper You Dig) returns in full force, and if you're already a fan of the independent filmmaking troupe, you're in for a treat, because this is the gang at the top of their game. This is the first American film to win the Fantasia Film Festival's Cheval Noir Award, and for very good reason. Witches are once again having a bit of a cinematic moment, and Toby Poser delivers an incredible take with her character, Solveig. Mother of Flies is a dark and delicate look at mortality, death, and of course… magic.
Experience all the magic and the horror for yourself. Mother of Flies streams on Shudder starting January 23.
Send Help - January 30
SEND HELP (Credit: 20th Century Studios) Sam Raimi's survival horror Send Help stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien and follows the two co-workers who become the sole survivors of a plane crash while on a business trip. Danny Elfman is composing this one (his eighth collaboration with Raimi), and by all accounts, it sounds like we are in for a treat. (It's also our FANGORIA #30 subscriber cover!)
Whistle - February 6
WHISTLE (Credit: IFC) Corin Hardy (The Nun) and Owen Egerton bring us a high school horror with an Aztec twist. When the new girl in school discovers an ancient Aztec death whistle, death is unleashed. Starring Yellowjackets‘ Sophie Nélisse and Logan‘s Dafne Keen. Check out our full review from Whistle‘s Fantastic Fest premiere.
Honey Bunch - February 13
HONEY BUNCH (Credit: XYZ Films) Experimental treatments in a remote facility? You have our attention. A marriage is put to the test when a husband and wife engage in increasingly intense procedures and true motives begin to be questioned. Grab your sugar pie and watch Honey Bunch when it streams on Shudder February 13.
This Is Not A Test - February 20
THIS IS NOT A TEST (Credit: IFC/Shudder) Olivia Holt (Heart Eyes) stars as Sloane, a high school student in a small town. When Sloane and a small group of classmates are forced to take refuge in their school from a suddenly apocalyptic situation in their hometown, danger threatens to knock down the door, and Sloane takes matters into her own hands. This Is Not A Test is in theaters February 20.
Psycho Killer - February 20
PSYCHO KILLER (Credit: 20th Century Studios) Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) is back to battle a Psycho Killer. Zombieland director Gavin Polone is set to helm the upcoming feature, with a script written by Se7en and Sleepy Hollow scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Campbell stars as a highway patrol officer on a mission to track down her husband's killer. Given all the folks involved with this one, we'll definitely be seated opening night.
Scream 7 - February 27
SCREAM 7 (Credit: Paramount Pictures) Original Scream scribe Kevin Williamson directs this next installment, which sees the return of original Scream cast members, Neve Campbell as final girl Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, and David Arquette. Returning franchise cast also includes Mason Gooding and Jasmine Savoy-Brown from the Radio Silence reboot. How exactly will multiple dead characters come into play? Find out when Scream 7 hits theaters February 27.
The Bride! - March 6
THE BRIDE! (Credit: Warner Bros. Pictures) Maggie Gylenhaal's The Bride! takes place in 1930s Chicago. The story (written by Gylenhaal) follows “a lonely Frankenstein” as he seeks the aid of Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. According to the official synopsis, “The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
Dolly - March 6
DOLLY (Credit: IFC/Shudder) This indie slasher from director Rob Blackhurst follows a young woman who fights for survival after being abducted by a deranged monster-like figure who wants to raise her as its child. If you're hungry for some backwoods masked slasher action, satiate your appetite when Dolly lands in theaters March 6.
They Will Kill You - March 27
Credit: New Line Cinema They Will Kill You is the first movie from Andy and Barbara Muschietti's new horror label Nocturna. The New York City-set horror stars Myha'la Herrold (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Zazie Beetz, Patricia Arquette, Heather Graham, and Tom Felton, and follows “a woman who answers a help-wanted ad to be a housekeeper in a mysterious New York City high-rise. She doesn’t realize she is entering a community that has seen a number of disappearances over the years.”
Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come - April 10
READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME (Credit: Searchlight Pictures) Samara Weaving's Grace is perhaps the greatest final girl in recent horror history. After surviving a deadly game with her demented in-laws in the first installment, Grace and her sister “must now outrun four rival families competing for a powerful throne.”
Weaving returns, this time joined by Kathryn Newton, Elijah Wood, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kevin Duran, David Cronenberg, and more for a truly stacked cast. Judging from the trailer, this one picks up from the moment the first one left off. Oh, we are so ready.
The Mummy - April 17
A sneak peek from the set of Lee Cronin's THE MUMMY (Credit: @curleecronin) Evil Dead Rise director, Lee Cronin is slated to write and direct this Blumhouse monster movie. Not much info on this one yet, aside from the sparse plot: “A family encounters an ancient mummy in this fresh take on the classic monster.” And the fact that we're really excited about it.
Monster movies are having a real moment, and we're not mad about it. More on that here.
Disclosure Day - June 12
Credit: Universal Pictures Steven Spielberg's long mysterious UFO movie now has a title, a trailer, and a release date! This summer, we'll be treated to Spielberg's 37th feature film. And the fact that he's returning to aliens for this one is making us feel like kids again. Get ready for a summer blockbuster to remember.
Based on a story by Spielberg with a screenplay written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park), this one has a ridiculously awesome ensemble cast featuring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Wyatt Russell.
The wait won't be much longer, we're coming close to… Disclosure Day. What's the popcorn bucket going to look like for this one?
Scary Movie 6 - June 12
Marlon and Shawn Wayans lead the charge in this return of the horror movie spoof franchise. Tons of returning cast are on board for this one, and we can't wait to see which movies are in the spoof lineup. This marks the first time since both Faris and Hall have been involved since 2006’s Scary Movie 4.
Evil Dead Burn - July 24
French director Sébastien Vaniček (Infested) takes on deadites in the latest installment of the Evil Dead franchise. Produced by Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures, we don't have plot details on this one just yet, but it is promised to be “nasty.” Evil Dead Burn stars Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two), Hunter Doohan (Wednesday), Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), and Tandi Wright (Pearl).
Flowervale Street - August 14
A dinosaur movie starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. The official logline reads: “A family in the '80s start to notice bizarre happenings in their neighborhood.” We don't know much else but dinosaurs in the '80s is enough to have us seated, how bout you?
Untitled Insidious Film - August 21
The sixth Insidious movie is set to drop this year, no official title just yet, but you know what we mean when we say Insidious 6. Lin Shaye returns, and we're excited to see what's in store for us.
Clayface - September 11
The Mike Flanagan penned R-rated body horror is promised to be “a complete horror film” according to James Gunn. The shape-shifting supervillain gets his own movie described as “a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay.”
Resident Evil - September 18
Zach Cregger's (Weapons, Barbarian) Resident Evil reboot sounds like it will go the route of being more inspired by and taking part in the universe of the franchise rather than a direct game to movie adaptation. For more on that, check out our exclusive interview with Cregger. Find out exactly what that means when Resident Evil lands in theaters this September.
Other Mommy - October 9
Based on Josh Malerman's novel, Incidents Around the House, follows the story of an 8-year-old girl living in a home with marital problems. When a sinister entity emerges from her closet, she begins referring to it as “Other Mommy.” Listen, we love monsters and creepy kids, and with The Boogeyman and Host director Rob Savage heading this one up, we're likely in for some excellent scares this fall.
Remain (Shyamalan/Nicholas Sparks) - October 23
M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks are making a movie. As in, the horror director and the author of The Notebook and A Walk To Remember. Listen, I'm not 100% sure this is a horror movie but this sounded too wonderfully weird to not put on your radar. Just imagine what that could look like!
Here's the official synopsis: “A grieving architect moves to Cape Cod for work after leaving a psychiatric facility. While staying at a historic B&B, he meets a mysterious woman who makes him question his rational beliefs about life and loss.” A little mystery and some supernatural elements seem enough to include it for now!
Violent Night 2 - December 5
VIOLENT NIGHT (Credit: Universal) David Harbour returns as Santa Claus in Violent Night 2. The first installment had some of the most inventive kills of the year, and we're looking forward to what Santa has in store this time around. Violent Night writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller will also be returning along with director Tommy Wirkola, which is all fantastic news for Violent Night fans.
The sequel reportedly picks up with Santa stranded in a New Jersey mall, cut off from the North Pole. Naturally, he'll be serving up some ultra violent justice, this time to a ruthless crime lord and his henchmen overrunning the town's mall. Ho, ho, oh yeahhh.
Werwulf - December 25
Nosferatu director Robert Eggers returns with another period horror, co-written with Icelandic author and The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This time he's adding a little extra fur for Werwulf. I'm really loving this pattern of Eggers monster movies for Christmas. More of that, please. Werwulf stars Ralph Ineson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, and Lily-Rose Depp.
The official logline for your reading pleasure: “In medieval Britain, a mysterious creature stalks the foggy countryside, transforming local folklore into terrifying reality as villagers face an ancient supernatural threat.”
Release Dates TBD
Bodycam
Crazy Old Lady
Forbidden Fruits
The Holy Boy
The Mortuary Assistant
