Leigh Whannell's upcoming lycanthropic nightmare Wolf Man gets a new trailer today via Universal Pictures UK that teases a truly terrifying bodily transformation, with some additional footage not yet seen in US trailers.
Starring Christopher Abbott (Sanctuary, Poor Things), Julia Garner (Apartment 7A) and Matilda Firth (Starve Acre), Whannell's take on the Universal creature classic hits theaters on January 17 2025, and follows:
Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Garner), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Firth).
But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.
Written by Whannell, Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, Wolf Man is produced by Blumhouse's Jason Blum and Ryan Gosling (yes, that Ryan Gosling!)
While Blumhouse are taking a page out of Longlegs and Nosferatu‘s playbook by keeping Abbott's full wolfy glory under wraps, today's new trailer certainly hints that the transformation in Whannell's vision is going to be a slower, more drawn out process as opposed to an An American Werewolf in London style explosion of flesh.
