If you thought George A. Romero’s zombie universe was bad enough, just check out what’s going on over at Crunchyroll. The anime streamer has just released the trailer for their new series Nyaight of the Living Cat, featuring an opening theme by The Yellow Monkey and closing credits by Wanima, which premieres next month.
Nyaight of the Living Cat hails from executive director Takashi Miike, and includes a voice cast of stellar Japanese artists, including Masaaki Mizunaka, Reina Ueda, Reiji Kawashima, Yu Serizawa, Subaru Kimura, Yoshiki Nakajima, Hiroki Yasumoto, Ryota Takeuchi, Tomoko Miyadera, Kazuyuki Okitsu, Atsumi Tanezaki, Satoshi Tsuruoka, Hiroshi Naka, Toshiyuki Morikawa, Tessho Genda, and Shigeru Chiba. The series’ synopsis is as follows:
Run! The adorable cats are here. In 20XX, the world is dominated by cats. A virus which turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat has spread into a worldwide nyandemic. Cats rub against people, turning them into cats. Can humanity fight their urge to pet cats to survive in this cat-ridden world?
Nyaight of the Living Cat is based on the manga of a similar name, Night of the Living Cat, written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mecha Roots. Tomohiro Kamitani serves as director, with Takao Maki serving as character designer, with a screenplay from Shingo Irie. The series hails from OLM Studios, the company responsible for popular series like The Apothecary Diaries, and is set to screen at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, as part of their second wave of titles.
Anime Expo attendees will also get a special sneak peek at the series next month, when the first episode screens on July 3 at the convention in Los Angeles. Elsewhere, the series begins streaming on July 6 on Crunchyroll, with new episodes premiering on Sundays.
