House of the Dragon star Olivia Cooke has been tapped to star in Chloe Okuno's vampire horror Brides, replacing previously attached star Maika Monroe.
According to Deadline, who reported the news exclusively earlier today, Monroe is no longer able to star in the NEON feature due to a scheduling conflict with her upcoming pic Reminders of Him.
Cooke will now play the role of Sally Bishop, who travels to a remote Italian villa with her husband, only to find that the owner of the villa, a mysterious count, takes a peculiar interest in her.
Loosely inspired by the iconic tale of Dracula, Brides, which Okuno also scripted, is described as “gothic, glamorous, and gory” bringing a story that will “flip Bram Stoker’s narrative on its head, exploring the struggle between societal repression and carnal desire.”
The film marks Okuno's sophomore feature after 2022's Watcher (which starred Monroe as a woman being stalked in her new home of Bucharest), as well as her acclaimed short in V/H/S/94, “Storm Drain”.
Cooke, who has been starring in HBO's fantasy-drama series House of the Dragon as Alicent Hightower, has a few horror pics in her filmography already, including 2014's The Quiet Ones and Ouija. She also starred in Darius Marder's Sound of Metal opposite Riz Ahmed, as well as Ready Player One.
Monroe was also part of another casting reshuffle recently when it was reported that the Longlegs star has replaced Margaret Qualley in Gothic horror Victorian Psycho.
Look out for more on Brides as we get it!
