I tend to keep personal thoughts to myself as I write up news posts, but this particular trailer does get to the heart of a question I ponder not infrequently: why don’t more people do stuff with dinosaurs in popular media? It’s not as though the Jurassic Park/World franchise owns prehistoric creatures – it’s fair game! Well, an indie game developer by the name of Logan Chitwood is coming to the rescue in 2023 as he is bringing us a brand new survival/horror game full of dinos in the form of Paleophage. To help ring in the new year, Chitwood has revealed a trailer. Let’s have a gander.

Much to discuss there! First off, this looks like a throwback in many, many ways. It’s not that it looks like a remake of Dino Crisis, but it very much looks to be filling the hole that franchise left behind quite some time ago. If the powers that be won’t revive that series, the door is wide open for someone else to take the baton and run with it. It also looks, all due respect, a little retro from a graphics perspective. That’s not a bad thing! Just the nature of this particular beast. Also, again, it looks like literally one person is putting this game together, for the most part, so it’s impressive. The synopsis for the game reads as follows:

“In Paleophage, you play as two different characters across a single campaign to uncover the secrets of the Paleophage, a prehistoric biological nightmare capable of reconstituting ancient life. Fight for survival through a myriad of environments, from an urban resort and convention hall to remote forest reserves. Featuring intense over-the-shoulder third-person survival horror gameplay, fight or attempt to outrun over ten varieties of prehistoric creatures. Use your wits to solve puzzles and gather information through environmental storytelling as you explore your surroundings.”

Fortunately for dino lovers, this is far from the only game coming to town. We recently shared the trailer for The Lost Wild, though that isn’t due to arrive until 2024. Aside from that, we also have the long-awaited Instinction, which is expected to debut sometime this year. And, on the movie front, we’ve got 65 coming our way. So the dinosaur goods are coming!

Paleophage does not yet have a firm release date set, but it is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
