Isabelle Fuhrman will reprise her role as sweet little Esther in William Brent Bell's upcoming Orphan 3, with Lionsgate launching the officially-announced threequel at the American Film Market this week.
David Coggeshall, the writer of 2022's Orphan: First Kill, will pen the script, with Dark Sky Entertainment producing.
2009's Orphan starred Fuhrman as a seemingly sweet and adorable nine-year-old Russian girl who, when adopted by an American couple (Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard), unleashed a dark secret, that being that she's a grown woman with a rare hormonal disorder that causes her to look like a child. Prequel Orphan: First Kill followed Esther's journey prior to this, starring Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland as another unsuspecting couple.
Plot details for Orphan 3 remain tightly under wraps, but will presumably follow the story of Esther aka Leena Klammer before the events of Orphan, and possibly before Orphan: First Kill.
Deadline remind that the Orphan franchise has grossed a cool $125 million worldwide to date, so it's no surprise that a third movie in the series was greenlit.
Norman Golightly, Co-CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment details his excitement:
“Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the Orphan saga […] With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.”
Now, the big question is, what behind-the-scenes trickery will be used this time to make Fuhrman look even younger than before? Hopefully they bring those platform shoes back.
