The nominations are officially in for the 98th Academy Awards, and it looks like it's gonna be a great night for horrorย with Sinners,ย Frankenstein,ย Weapons andย The Ugly Stepsisterย all nabbing nods at the announcement ceremony earlier this morning.

Ryan Coogler's vampire epicย Sinnersย set an incredible new record for most Oscar nominations ever, beating out the record set by All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land, with sixteen nods in almost every category. Guillermo del Toro's monster movieย Frankenstein is also up for a hefty number of statues.

Sinners and Frankenstein are both up for the coveted Best Picture award, with Coogler also up for Achievement in Directing. Both movies are up for awards in acting, with Jacob Elordi and Delroy Lindo nabbing nominations for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for their roles as the Creature and Delta Slim in Frankenstein andย Sinners respectively.ย Sinners lead Michael B. Jordan is up for Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as twins Smoke and Stack.

Weapons star Amy Madigan and Sinners'ย  Wunmi Mosaku are up for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for their roles as Aunt Gladys in Weapons and Annie inย Sinners respectively.

Sinnersย also picked up nominations for the inaugural Achievement in Casting award, Best Original Screenplay, Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Production Design, Achievement in Sound, Film Editing, Achievement in Visual Effects, Makeup and Hairstyling and Achievement in Cinematography. “I Lied to You” is also up for Original Song.

Frankenstein is also up for Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Production Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Adapted Screenplay, Achievement in Sound and Achievement in Cinematography.

Elsewhere,ย Jurassic World Rebirth picked up a nom for Achievement in Visual Effects, while Emilie Blicheldt's body horror fairytaleย The Ugly Stepsister is up for Makeup and Hairstyling, a huge achievement for Shudder.

Overall, an incredible morning for our favorite genre, and especially forย Sinners which is also set to win big at the Golden Globes following its FANGORIA Chainsaw Award sweep last year and becoming the biggest original Hollywood hit since Inception. It bears repeating that Sinners is an R-rated, original horror movie, making its new status as most nominated film ever an absolutely monumental achievement. We've already laid out why the pic deserves to win an Oscar or two, and now chances are better than ever before. Stay tuned.
