Osgood Perkins isn't giving horror fans a second to catch our breath, with today bringing the official announcement that production is now under way on The Young People, the mysterious new pic from the Longlegs, The Monkey and Keeper director.
The Young People lead Lola Tung can be seen relaxing next to a bathtub full of ominous dark liquid in the monochromatic announcement picture (no prizes for guessing what bodily fluid that could be). The Summer I Turned Pretty star takes the reigns of the latest “bad trip” from Perkins alongside Nico Parker (The Last of Us).
Given that The Young People is another Perkins x NEON joint, plot details remain firmly under wraps, and we can probably expect to be kept in the dark for a good long while. Remember how long those Longlegs teasers kept us on the edge of our seat for last year? Even Keeper, which releases in just under a month, is still very much an enigma, with Perkins and star Tatiana Maslany only giving hints of the film's “disgusting” themes to keep our interest piqued.
However, a previous announcement for The Young People did give us a sneak peek at the film's script, which makes mention of something described as one of “The Old Ones” dropping its robe, so we're probably looking at something to do with cults or messed up religious rituals here.
The Young People sees Perkins back with NEON as part of his first-look deal with the genre giant, having launched a new banner, Phobos, alongside Chris Ferguson. Under the deal, NEON will serve as the home for Perkins’ projects, which he and Ferguson will produce. It will also allow Perkins and Ferguson to produce other filmmakers’ movies for NEON, who will release these projects theatrically in the United States and represent international rights.
Check out the full official announcement picture below and look out for more on The Young People, currently set for a theatrical release sometime in 2026, as we get it.
