SCREAM 7: Patrick Dempsey Teases His Return For Slasher Sequel

Dempsey would once again step into the role of Sidney Prescott's husband, Detective Kincaid.

Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy, Thanksgiving) is reportedly in talks to return for Scream 7, presumably once again stepping into his previous Scream 3 role of Detective Kincaid.

The seventh entry into the slasher franchise is set for release on February 27, 2026, and will be directed by series co-creator and Scream (1996) writer Kevin Williamson.

Neve Campbell is set to return as final girl Sidney Prescott, in what is reported to be a Sidney-focused story, as opposed to Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023) which followed Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega's Carpenter sisters.

Courteney Cox is apparently also in talks to return as Gale Weathers, and, as we learned last week, Matthew Lillard is down to return as the “definitely alive” Stu Macher if it makes sense, story-wise.

Dempsey, speaking on the Today show, teased that he might be the latest Scream alum returning for the reunion, while also commenting on how he would be going from playing Campbell's sibling on Grey's Anatomy, to again playing her spouse in Scream 7:

I’m waiting on the script. There has been a conversation about it. I haven’t seen anything yet. So, we’ll see what happens, but Neve was actually on the show. Which is oddly enough, she played my sister on Grey’s Anatomy and we worked together almost 26 – 27 years ago. I think it was ’99.

Dempsey's Mark Kincaid was introduced in Scream 3 as an officer investigating Ghostface's latest reign of terror, before returning in name only in Scream and Scream VI, where it was confirmed by directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett that he and Sidney are now married with children.

It seems like a no-brainer in a Sidney-focused story that her husband would be involved, so we can't imagine it'll be long before Dempsey is confirmed to be joining. We'll bring you more on Scream 7 as we learn it.
