Character actor Patrick Fischler (Lost, Mad Men, Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks: The Return) is the latest to join Apple TV+'s Cape Fear series in a guest role opposite previously announced stars Amy Adams and Javier Bardem.

Also starring in the thriller series are The Conjuring‘s Patrick Wilson and CCH Pounder (The X-Files, Godzilla: King of the Monsters), with Headhunters, Passengers and The Imitation Game's Morten Tyldum on board to direct the pilot of the ten-episode first season. Channel Zero‘s Nick Antosca will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Described as ‘a tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century', Cape Fear based on both John D. MacDonald’s novel “The Executioners”, and Martin Scorsese's 1991 remake of the original 1962 Cape Fear film by J. Lee Thompson:

“In Cape Fear, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.”

In J. Lee Thompson's original film, Max Cady was played by Robert Mitchum, while Robert De Niro took on the role for Scorsese's version, which also starred Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis. No word yet on who Fischler will portray in the latest imagining, according to Deadline who reported the news earlier today, but considering Fischler is one of the best ‘oh hey, it's THAT guy' actors out there, we're excited to see him involved nonetheless.

Executive producing the Cape Fear series are Scorsese, Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat, with Steven Spielberg (who originally developed 1991's Cape Fear but allegedly traded with Scorsese thinking the pic was “too violent”), Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television, Bardem, Adams, and Morten Tyldum, who directs the pilot.

At the time of writing, Cape Fear doesn't yet have a release date. Look out for more updates as we get them,
