Paul Giamatti’s about to have the vacation from hell. Deadline reports that the Oscar nominee is set to star in Boutique, a new horror film about an American tourist who finds himself trapped in a quaint English town, hailing from the folks behind the popular TV series Lodge 49.
According to Deadline, Giamatti stars as Calvin, an American tourist who “journeys to the eerie English seaside town that inspired the work of his favorite reclusive author but instead gets entangled with a murderous secret society permeating the whole town.” No other casting for the film has been announced.
Boutique is written and directed by Lodge 49’s Jim Gavin in his feature debut, with Giamatti producing through his banner Touchy Feely Films alongside Dan Carey. Also producing are James Harris and Mark Lane, and Guy Danella for XYZ Films, which will handle distribution for the film coming off filming for another horror project, Banquet,
“I’m crazy excited to be a part of this project and for Touchy Feely to be working with XYZ,” Giamatti said to Deadline. “Scary, funny, bizarre, strangely moving, it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read by one of the most talented guys I know, Jim Gavin!”
Boutique will be Giamatti’s first turn in a horror film in over a decade, having previously starred in Morgan, the 2016 psychological thriller that co-starred Kate Mara and scream queen Anya Taylor-Joy. He also recently appeared in an episode of the popular sci-fi series Black Mirror, and is set to star in Eli Roth’s television reimagining of Hostel.
“We’re honored and excited to be working with a legend like Paul and take his singular talents to new genre territories through Jim’s iconic script,” said XYZ’s Danella.
No release date has been set for Boutique. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
