Following the news that Dan Trachtenberg‘s Prey follow-up Predator: Badlands will have the Predator as its protagonist, an exciting update from yesterday's CinemaCon has revealed that star Elle Fanning will be joining forces with the titular extraterrestrial beast.
Reporting directly from 20th Century's presentation yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter gave a rundown of first look footage of the sci-fi horror, set to release on November 7 in theaters.
Fanning, also seen in the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, took to the stage to tease the audience with a little more insight into Predator: Badlands‘ unusual switch-up. Instead of being hunted down by the Predator, her character, confirmed to be named Thia, will unite with him in the face of an unusual event:
“Something unprecedented happens in this movie, and my character is not the one being chased […] My character actually teams up with the Predator, and you get to see him in a whole new light.”
THR goes on to describe the footage:
The footage looked bold and sweeping at times, as plenty of peril was at hand. Fanning says in the trailer, “You’re hunting something that can’t be killed.”
Per Wikipedia, a very slim plot synopsis for Predator: Badlands reads:
An outcast Predator traverses an alien wasteland while two sisters discover their horrifying past.
Released in 2022, Trachtenberg's Prey was a huge hit even with no theatrical release, resurrecting the Predator franchise and racking up six Emmy Award nominations.
As previously reported, Predator: Badlands is not a sequel to Prey, but another standalone story set in the Predator universe. A Prey sequel could be underway, as star Amber Midthunder has expressed interest in returning as Comanche warrior Naru.
There's also the second secret Predator project coming from Trachtenberg, which possibly could be a Prey sequel, but is reportedly an animated anthology.
Look out for more on Predator: Badlands as we get it!
