Sam Raimi's Send Help, the Evil Dead maestro's upcoming desert island-set thriller from 20th Century Studios, may have found its star in Doctor Strange, Mean Girls and Red Eye star Rachel McAdams.

Deadline, who reported the news over the weekend, tell us that these negotiations are in “early stages”, and nothing is definite at this point. But, Send Help is expected to be a theatrical release.

Send Help has been billed as:

…a two-hander set on an island with both comedic and thriller elements. The story is said to fall somewhere between Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Misery and Robert Zemeckis’ classic Castaway.

We also previously learned that Send Help is based on an original script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason2009‘s Friday the 13th ), and produced by Raimi and Zainab Azizi under Raimi Productions.

Send Help would mark a reunion for McAdams and Raimi, who previously worked together on 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It would be a return to horror for both of the pair, as Raimi's last pure horror outing was 2009's Drag Me to Hell and McAdams' biggest genre offering being Wes Craven's 2005 Red Eye, where she starred alongside Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy.

Raimi has still been active behind the scenes, being executive producer on Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise, and producer on this year's genre-bending Boy Kills World. He's also in the producer cair on Netflix's upcoming thriller Don't Move and the horror thriller Locked, starring Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins. Plus, the as-of-now unnamed project between Raimi and Terrifier's Damien Leone.
