Dark Horse Comics has been working hard to collect the works of celebrated graphic novelist Richard Corben, and now, they’re adding yet another of his biggest works to their celebrated Richard Corben Library. FANGORIA is excited to help the publisher announce that they’ll be releasing a new, deluxe hardcover edition of Rat God, the author’s Lovecraftian tale of a community who worships the preternatural title character.
The 184-page hardcover deluxe edition will be hitting stores this fall, and is available for pre-order now through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and local comic shops and bookstores for $39.99 USD Written and illustrated by Corben, the new deluxe edition features remastered lettering by Nate Piekos and colors by Beth Corben Reed, as well as a foreword by Bram Stoker Award-winning author Caitlin R. Kiernan, and both black-and-white and color versions of Corben’s long out of print short comics, “The Rats in the Walls.” The synopsis for Rat God, for those unfamiliar, is as follows:
Terrible things stalk the forests outside Arkham in this chilling original tale from comics master Richard Corben! An arrogant city slicker on a quest to uncover the background of a young woman from the backwoods finds horrors beyond imagining, combining Lovecraftian mutations with Native American legends.
Rat God is just the latest in Dark Horse’s long line of offerings celebrating the author and Eisner Hall of Fame inductee. They most recently released a new edition of Rowlf and Other Fantasy Stories, a remix of Beauty and the Beast that hits shelves in August, as well as publishing Dimwood, Corben’s final work, for the first time ever.
The deluxe edition of Rat God is available for pre-order now, and will hit shelves on November 18. Check out the cover and some pages from the new edition below:
