In your restless dreams, do you see that town? If so, you're probably getting ready to Return to Silent Hill, as Christophe Gans' psychological horror movie creeps closer to its January 23 release date. To ramp up excitement further, Cineverse has launched a brand new alternate reality game (ARG) in anticipation of the return to the foggy town.
Per Variety, who reported the full details exclusively earlier today, the campaign drops cryptic clues, exclusive clips and hidden lore across Reddit, Instagram and TikTok, leading players to a central hub at youliveherenow.com filled with unlockable content. The tasks get harder as fans go deeper, but so do the rewards—digital badges, surprises and access to corners of the Silent Hill world they haven’t seen before.
For the final reward however, you've got to get out and see Return to Silent Hill on the big screen. As detailed by Variety, moviegoers who show proof of ticket purchase receive a limited-edition postcard from Silent Hill at participating chains nationwide.
Starring Jeremy Irvine (The Woman in Black: Angel of Death) and Jigsaw‘s Hannah Emily Anderson, Return to Silent Hill is directed and co-written by Gans (who directed 2006's Silent Hill), Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider, and is a direct adaptation of Konami's 2001 horror game classic Silent Hill 2.
Evie Templeton, who voiced Laura in Bloober Team's recent Silent Hill 2 Remake, also stars, with Silent Hill music maestro Akira Yamaoka returning for soundtrack duties.
In Return to Silent Hill:
“James (Irvine), a man broken after being separated from his one true love (Anderson). When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love.”
Return to Silent Hill comes as part of Konami's recent efforts to revive the long-dormant franchise, with the aforementioned Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f a hit with fans last year, and Bloober's Silent Hill 1 remake still to come.
