Christophe Gans’ RETURN TO SILENT HILL Acquired For U.S. Theatrical Release

The film is directly based on Konami's 2001 psychological horror game, SILENT HILL 2.

Following its announcement all the way back in  in 2022, Christophe Gans Return to Silent Hill has been acquired for U.S. theatrical release via Cineverse, Variety reports today. An exact release date has yet to be announced.

Return to Silent Hill marks Gans' return to the franchise following his 2006 Silent Hill, which blended elements from the first three games. This time around, Return to Silent Hill  is directly based on Konami's 2001 game Silent Hill 2 (recently remade by Bloober Team).

Starring Jeremy Irvine (The Woman in Black: Angel of Death) and Jigsaw‘s Hannah Emily Anderson, Return to Silent Hill was written by Gans, Sandra Vo-Anh, and Will Schneider, and follows:

“James (Irvine), a man broken after being separated from his one true love (Anderson). When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love.”

Also confirmed to star is Evie Templeton as Laura, who'll reprise the role after voicing the character in Bloober's Silent Hill 2 remake. And yes,  rest assured, the iconic and terrifying Pyramid Head will be playing a starring role in the upcoming sequel.

In a new statement, Gans reassured diehard fans of Silent Hill 2 (we're a tricky bunch to please, admittedly) that his take on the story will be “a faithful adaptation”, adding:

“I am delighted to partner with Cineverse, which has shown a genuine understanding of fanship. ‘Return to Silent Hill’ is an adaptation created out of deep respect for a true masterpiece of a game, Konami’s iconic ‘Silent Hill 2.’ I hope fans will enjoy and be fulfilled with the experience this new film has to offer,”

Gans has also confirmed that Return to Silent Hill will feature ‘a few nods to P.T.', referencing the ill-fated playable teaser for Hideo Kojima's sadly cancelled Silent Hills.

International rights for Return to Silent Hill are with The Veterans, who are representing the film at the upcoming Cannes Film Market. Look out for more updates as they creep in.
