For those of you into international horror, Netflix has something up their sleeve for you. As part of their International Showcase slate, the streamer has revealed the first images from Revelations, the next film from Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho, which is set to hit the platform sometime next year, and is executive produced by Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón.
According to Netflix, Revelations “follows a pastor and a detective, each driven by their own beliefs. The pastor believes it’s his divine calling to punish the culprit behind a missing-person case, while the detective assigned to the case continues to be haunted by visions of her dead sister.”
Ryu Jun-yeol plays Min-chan the pastor, who “receives a divine revelation identifying him as the culprit who abducted his son, and he sets forth to pursue justice. Alternating between sincere faith and cruel reality, Min-chan becomes consumed by his quest for retribution.”Meanwhile, Shin Hyun-been plays detective Yeon-hee, who is “constantly haunted” but despite her personal struggles, doggedly pursues the culprit, adding tension to the narrative.” The images feature both the stars individually, dealing with unique threats that force them to the edge of their own sanity.
Yeon Sang-ho co-wrote the script with his Hellbound collaborator Choi Gyu-seok in addition to directing, adapting their 2022 comic book of the same name. “Alfonso Cuarón, known for masterpieces like Children of Men and Gravity, has greatly influenced my work as a director,” Yeon said in a statement to Netflix. “I am thrilled at this opportunity to collaborate with him on shaping Revelations, and I have high expectations for our partnership.”
This is Yeon’s third time working for Netflix, after working on Hellbound, as well as Parasyte: The Grey, another manga adaptation that hit the streamer earlier this year. It’s one of many titles announced by Netflix on their upcoming international slate, which also includes Troll 2 (no, not that one) and The Leopard.
Revelations will hit Netflix sometime in 2025. Check out the rest of the images below:
