He is coming! Robert Eggers' long-awaited Nosferatu finally creeps closer with a brand new trailer today teasing that the vampire epic could well be the scariest movie of 2024.
Starring Lily Rose-Depp (pictured above, having what looks like a very bad time), Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Ineson, Willem Dafoe and, of course, Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok himself, Nosferatu hits theaters on the very festive date of December 25 in the US, and a little later on January 3 over in the UK.
Focus Features have described Eggers’ vision as;
“a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
Eggers’ (who has rocked the modern landscape with his previous period pieces The Witch and The Northman) take on the F. W. Murnau 1922 classic has been in development since at least 2015 (losing cast members like Anya Taylor-Joy and Harry Styles along the way), so it's safe to say that anticipation is very high among horror fans for this one.
Thankfully (and very wisely, from a marketing perspective) the latest Nosferatu trailer still reveals very little of the titular bloodsucker, keeping Skarsgård's “gross, but sexualized” look still shrouded in mystery.
Eggers, who wrote the script for Nosferatu, also serves as a producer along with Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, Jeff Robinov, and John Graham.
We're sure we don't have to remind you to be seated on Christmas Day for the release Nosferatu, but why not make it a whole family event? Hell, take Grandma along too. She'll love it.
