Following up his box office hit Nosferatu, Robert Eggers is once again teaming up with Focus Features for another creature feature – a 13th-century set werewolf thriller titled Werwulf.

Reporting the news exclusively earlier today, The Hollywood Reporter also reveal that Focus Features has dated the thriller for a North America release on Christmas Day 2026, clearly hoping to repeat the festive success of Nosferatu.

Per THR, Eggers wrote Werwulf with Icelandic poet and screenwriter Sjón, who co-wrote 2022's Viking saga The Northman. While details are scarce, sources say the story is set in 13th century England. The script also features dialogue that was true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those uninitiated to Old English (probably all of us, right?)

Interestingly, Eggers was reportedly planning on shooting the feature in black and white, before switching back to color.

Both Eggers and Sjón will produce alongside Focus Features. Chris and Eleanor Columbus, who worked with Eggers on Nosferatu, will executive produce.

Werwulf serves as another reminder that we're currently sitting pretty in the middle of a classic monsters renaissance, following Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man, Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Frankenstein, Maggie Gyllenhaal's upcoming The Bride!, and James Wan's upcoming The Creature from the Black Lagoon, to name but a few.

Eggers' Nosferatu, starring Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has stormed the box office since its Christmas Day release, currently sitting at $156 million worldwide and becoming Focus Features' second highest-grossing movie ever at the domestic box office.

Needless to say, we'll be watching Werwulf very closely. Keep your eyes peeled for updates as they roll in.
