As any fa-la-la-ing Fangorian knows, Christmas is ripe soil for horror stories, and has been for centuries. In real life, everyone agrees that heading home for the holidays can often be its own brand of horror. Filmmaker Don Swaynos (Don’t Ever Change, the upcoming Professional Texan) has cannily exploited both phenomena recently, and in doing so has gifted us a hilarious, nasty little short called Roger is a Serial Killer.
What's it about? Glad you asked. As the film’s press materials note, “A podcaster implicates her stepfather in a series of unsolved murders, which makes for a compelling show but an awkward family reunion.” The film stars Sara Paxton, Mark Reeb, Chris Doubek, Mical Trejo and Fango fam member/contributor/fave Barbara Crampton.
We asked Don if he wanted to tee up his film for Fango readers; below are his thoughts, followed by the film itself. Enjoy!
“Seeing family for the holidays can be awkward, especially in the wake of the election, so I hope Roger is a Serial Killer can serve as a distraction. Even if you don’t get along with your family, at least you didn’t make a podcast accusing them of serial murder.
“We’re really excited to finally share Roger is a Serial Killer with the world. We couldn’t have made this film without our incredible team: Producers Thomas Fernandes and Christopher Shea; Executive Producers Amanda Fox and Mark Reeb; Cinematographer Ellie Ann Fenton; Art Director Sam Robinson; Composer Curtis Heath; everyone at TBD Post and the entire crew.
“I still can’t believe how amazing our cast was; they’re still making me laugh. I hope you enjoy it. Happy holidays!”
