Ahead of its February 27, 2026 release date, Scream 7 further rounds out its cast, with Deadline reporting today that Community‘s Joel McHale will be joining the slasher sequel as Mark Evans, the husband of final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell).
McHale's Mark Evans takes the place of Sidney's previous husband, Patrick Dempsey's Detective Kincaid (introduced in 2000's Scream 3) who was previously reported as circling the role.
Alongside Campbell, McHale joins returning stars Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, and new cast additions Isabel May, McKenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann and Anna Camp.
Directed by original Scream writer Kevin Williamson from a script by Gary Busick, Scream 7 is the third in Scream‘s so-called “requel” series, following 2022’s Scream and Scream VI in 2023, the latter of which raked in a franchise-high gross at the domestic box office, earning over $108 million. Plot details for Scream 7 are still tightly under wraps, other than the detail that the sequel will be a “Sidney Prescott story“.
Scream 7‘s casting has of course undergone a huge shakeup after the firing of previous star Melissa Barrera, and scheduling conflicts that lead to Barrera's co-star and onscreen sister Jenna Ortega also leaving, with original director Christopher Landon exiting the project soon after.
Scream 7 won't be McHale's first genre go-round – the comedian previously starred in Scott Derrickson's Deliver Us From Evil, 2020's Becky and the Christmas slasher It's A Wonderful Knife, to name but a few. He'll also appear in Season Three of Yellowjackets, premiering this February.
Scream 7 hits theaters on February 27, 2026 via Spyglass and Paramount Pictures.
