Silent Night, Deadly Night, the new take on the festive slasher classic from Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, V/H/S/85), gets an official first poster today from Bloody Disgusting and Creepy Duck Designs ahead of its release later this year.
Cineverse, the team behind Terrifier 3, is handling North American distribution, with Deadline also reporting today that Sixth Dimension, Studiocanal’s new genre label, has picked up global rights for the slasher as their first acquisition for release in distribute in its own territories in the UK & Ireland, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Benelux and Poland.
Silent Night, Deadly Night is due to start production this spring.
1984's original Silent Night, Deadly Night , from director Charles Sellier Jr., tells the story of young Billy Chapman, who is traumatized after seeing his parents killed by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Ten years later, a psychotic Billy dons a Santa suit himself and gets bloody revenge.
Previously, speaking Deadline, Nelson expanded on his own personal history with the holiday slasher:
“I’ll never forget walking into the video store at the mini mall when I was 5 and seeing that poster for the original film. I was in awe and started imagining what horrifying things would happen. To be a part of the film’s legacy many years later is insane! I’m looking forward to getting production underway, and unleashing my new take on this compelling story. Billy is back!”
Scott J. Schneid and Dennis Whitehead, executive producers of the original film, are set to produce Nelson's Silent Night, Deadly Night, with Cineverse's Executive Director of Acquisitions, Brandon Hill executive producing alongside Brad Miska, Erick Opeka and Yolanda Macias.
