Not a fan of all this summertime heat and wish you could curl up in the dark with your favorite creatures of the night? Well, HBO Max has good news for you: they’ve just announced that Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s blockbuster vampire hit, will be arriving on the platform on July 4, just in time to ditch the holiday and make a visit to Smoke and Stack’s ill-fated juke joint.
Already available on digital, the Michael B. Jordan-led film will make its linear premiere on HBO on July 5 at 8 p.m. ET, and hits steelbook, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on July 8. This follows an extremely successful run in theaters, where it became the most successful original film released by Hollywood in fifteen years.
Also starring Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Lola Kirke, Delroy Londo, and more, the film earned just over $274 million domestically, with an international haul of $85 million, launching it over $361 million globally. In addition to winning over audiences, the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score — for as much as anyone can put credence in an aggregator — remains high, earning a clean 97 percent, as well as an A on CinemaScore, the highest rating for any original horror film ever.
FANGORIA’s own BJ Colangelo praised the film, calling it a “sweaty, sexy, blood-soaked success,” a tale that “boldly examines the impact of what happens when the Other is not a misunderstood outcast but instead a genuine threat whose corruptive infiltration only leads to death and destruction.” If that’s not a rousing endorsement to check out the film if you haven’t already, I don’t know what is.
Sinners hits HBO Max on July 4.
