The Internet horror trend continues with Warner Bros. officially snapping up a deal for a film adaptation of Siren Head, a viral urban legend turned meme created by artist and illustrator Trevor Henderson.
Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, Whalefall) will direct from a script by Weapons and Resident Evil‘s Zach Cregger, making Siren Head a piping hot horror package won by Warner after a five-way bidding war, according to Deadline.
Cregger and Duffield will produce alongside Roy Lee (Barbarian), Andrew Childs (Companion), and Scott Glassgold (Tarot), with rights holder Henderson exec producing.
As Deadline reminds, Siren Head, which first appeared in 2018, is part of Henderson's forte of superimposing hand-drawn monsters into real photographs. The creepy cryptid is described as 40-foot-tall, with a gaunt, emaciated humanoid figure topped off by, as the name implies, a head shaped like a siren that blares out distorted audio broadcasts to lure in its prey.
Warner Bros. are clearly taking notes after the success of Kane Parsons' Backrooms, itself based on a beloved viral meme, and are no doubt hoping for a similar box office result. There's also Curry Barker's Obsession, as well as Marikplier's recent Iron Lung, the success of both YouTuber-directed titles proving that the Internet is the place to go for new horror hits.
Stay tuned for more on Siren Head as we get it.
