Steven Soderbergh's POV ghost story Presence creeps onto PVOD tomorrow, February 25, with a 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD release to follow on May 20.
Released in theaters in January of this year via Neon, Presence stars Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Eddy Maday, West Mulholland and Julia Fox.
Written by Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp, the film centers on a family who move into a new suburban house only to become convinced they are not alone. Rather than your traditional ghost story, as mentioned, Presence is unique in the fact that it's told entirely from the perspective of the entity haunting said family.
It moves through the house, uneasy and unseen, a witness to the most painful and unguarded moments of the troubled family within. And with a growing urgency, the Presence gradually pieces together what it needs to do.
In our review of Presence, Jordan Hoffman praised the film's “simple and effective storytelling”, saying:
Over the course of 90 minutes, the tension builds to a spectacular crescendo, then to a final beat that sent me into full body chills. Not a jump scare, not gore, but a visceral response to Lucy Liu’s performance born from a place of true emotional horror.
Presence racked up a $9.1 million worldwide box office total off a modest $2 million budget.
