Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Vol. 2 of Stranger Things Season 5, with the the next three episodes of the final showdown of the Duffer Brothers' sci-fi horror hit series hitting the streamer at 5pm PT on Christmas Day, and the series finale premiering on December 31 in theaters too for the first time ever.

Returning for the last Hawkins hurrah are stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, Jamie Campbell Bower and more, with a cameo appearance from ‘80s icon Linda Hamilton as the malevolent Dr. Kay. The season synopsis reads as follows:

The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.

The ending of Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 1, which racked up over 59 million global views upon its premiere, left us with plenty of cliffhangers, including SPOILERS Will harnessing Vecna's powers into his own and becoming a new psychic weapon for the team, Holly Wheeler finding Max trapped inside Henry Creel's mindscape, Eleven reuniting with her “sister” Kali, and plenty more. Answers are teased in today's new trailer, making us even more terrified that Vol. 2 is going to break our hearts with some major character deaths.
