After quite a long while with little to no official updates, we finally have some insight into Terrifier 4. Writer/director Damien Leone has been working on the sequel pretty much ever since Terrifier 3 was released in late 2024. We’ve known for well over a year that Art the Clown will return at least once more. Now, Leone has offered some insight into what’s going on and where things stand.

Taking to Facebook and his other social media channels, Leone shared a not-terribly-brief post giving fans an update on Terrifier 4. While it doesn’t include plot details or anything like that, it does establish a timeline and helps manage expectations going forward. Here’s what he had to say:

“Hey guys! Since there’s so much Terrifier 4 speculation and false information out there, I wanted to drop in and give an official update. The script is very close to completion, and I’m hoping to begin pre-production this spring. This is the most precious script I’ve written for many reasons, but it’s also the most challenging. There’s a lot of material to tackle and a lot riding on this one, not just creatively but emotionally.”

“We’ve built something special together over the years,” Leone added. “The cast and crew who have been here since the beginning deserve a finale that honors their dedication, and the fans who’ve championed this franchise deserve something unforgettable.”

It was previously confirmed that the forthcoming sequel will delve into Art the Clown’s origin story. David Howard Thornton is expected to reprise his role as Art, with franchise heroine Lauren LaVera also expected to be back as Sienna. Thornton also previously said that the sequel will be bat-shit insane. Other than that, much remains mysterious.

Still, this update makes it clear that the script is close to complete and, if all goes well, filming will begin later this year. That means the movie should, barring any setbacks, arrive sometime in 2027. Speaking further, Leone expressed that he’s happy with the way things are coming along and made it clear that any official announcements will come from him; not the internet rumor mill.

“In all honesty, I’m thrilled with the way it’s turning out  and confident it will deliver. I will officially announce when the script is complete on my social media pages which also means we’ll be moving into pre-production. If you don’t see it coming from or confirmed by me, then it’s not official. Thank you for your patience. I promise it will be worth the wait!”

Plot details remain fully under wraps but Terrifier 4 was billed as an epic end to the Art the Clown saga. Maybe that extends to two movies but, for the most part, Leone seems like he’s getting ready to wrap up this epic slasher franchise sooner rather than later. Hence, he’s taking time to make sure he gets it right.

Terrifier 4 remains without a release date but stay tuned.
