Fifty years after the release of the iconic slasher, the soundtrack to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is finally getting a physical release, so Leatherface fans can treasure it forever. The vinyl, CD, and cassette release comes courtesy of Waxwork Records, with plenty of goodies to celebrate a half-century of Tobe Hooper’s masterpiece.
The soundtrack, which was co-composed by Hooper and sound designer Wayne Bell, is available for preorder in all three formats now, with cassettes in yellow, line green, or black retailing for $17 USD, CDs for $16 USD, and the vinyl record for $35. The vinyl release is pressed on hand-poured brown, orange, and yellow vinyl, with a brand new gatefold sleeve designed by Steve Reeves, and a twelve page booklet featuring production photography and liner notes by Bell himself.
Waxwork is also selling a bundle that contains all three formats, as well as a Leatherface-themed slipmat for your record player and a tote bag featuring Leatherface and the film’s logo, which retails for $75. All editions of the soundtrack are expected to ship sometime in the first quarter of 2025.
“In 2023, the original film score master tapes were discovered and then privately held at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, TX for preservation,” says Waxwork of the release. “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre‘s co-composer Wayne Bell painstakingly worked to have these original source material master tapes safely transferred. Bell then personally worked to construct and mix the newly transferred official Texas Chain Saw Massacre score for a cohesive listening experience. The score was then mastered by Thomas Dimuzio at Gench Mastering.”
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was originally released in 1974, produced by Hooper on a budget of less than $150,000, and went on to become a cult classic synonymous not just with slashers, but the entire horror genre. It’s since spawned multiple sequels, including a recent remake, but none have quite lived up to the terror of the original.
All three formats of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s soundtrak are available for preorder now on Waxwork’s website. Check out the new artwork below:
