In yet another overtly obvious commentary on society, Ryan Murphy’s taking on the beauty industry with the trailer for his latest project. The very blatantly named series The Beauty, starring Ashton Kutcher, hits FX and Hulu this month with a three episode premiere, boasting the tagline “one shot makes you hot” and an absolutely stacked cast.

Returning Murphy collaborator Evan Peters features in the series as FBI agent Cooper Madsen, working alongside Rebecca Hall’s Agent Bennett to investigate a string of supermodels dying in gruesome and mysterious ways. What they uncover is a bizarre STD that literally makes people hot — but with severe consequences. As they delve down the rabbit hole of how far people will go to look pretty, they come across Kutcher’s character, a tech billionaire who’s developed a terrifying new drug, and will do anything to protect it.

Also starring in the series is Anthony Ramos as Kutcher’s deadly enforcer, as well as Jeremy Pope, playing a desperate outsider caught in the chaos of a spreading epidemic of deadly beauty. Guest stars include Bella Hadid, Ben Platt, Isabella Rosselini, Lux Pascal, Meghan Trainor, Peter Gallagher, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

If the premise for the series sounds a bit too good to be true for a Murphy project — especially considering the recent disaster that was All’s Fair — you’d be right, since the series is based on a comic by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, which began in 2016 and ran through 2022. Created by Murphy and Matthew Hodgson, the series is produced by both creators alongside Peters, Ramos, Haun, and Pope, as well as Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Michael Uppendahl, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin.

The Beauty’s three episode premiere hits FX and Hulu on January 21. Check out the new trailer below:
