Now that Stranger Things is wrapping up, the Duffer Brothers are moving on to their next project, and it looks like it’s building an impressive cast. Variety reports that The Boroughs, featuring previously announced cast members Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman, has added six new stars, including Cujo star Dee Wallace.
Other new cast members include Rafael Casal, Ed Begley Jr., Jane Kaczmarek, Eric Edelstein, and Mousa Hussein Kraish. The logline for the series, which is executive produced by the Duffer Brothers and created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, is as follows:
“In a seemingly picturesque retirement community in the New Mexico desert, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have… time.”
Dee Wallace is, of course, a familiar face to anyone obsessed with horror, having starred in the Stephen King vehicle (quite literally) Cujo, as well as The Howling, from Gremlins director Joe Dante, as well as the original The Hills Have Eyes, Critters, The Frighteners, the 2007 Halloween, The House of the Devil, and The Lords of Salem. She most recently appeared in the indie horror film Stream, alongside Tim Curry.
The eight episode series is part of the Duffers’ overall deal with Netflix, in partnership with their banner Upside Down Pictures, which also includes the upcoming series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. The duo is busy prepping the final season of Stranger Things, which arrives on our screens next year, and it’s safe to say that they won’t be straying too far away from the horror scene (or Netflix, for that matter) any time soon.
No release date for The Boroughs has been announced.
