A24's The Death of Robin Hood, billed as a dark thriller reimagining of the Robin Hood legend, gets its first trailer today showcasing star Hugh Jackman in the titular ravaged role.
Directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One, the upcoming Death Stranding adaptation), The Death of Robin Hood also stars Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, 28 Years Later), Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu, It: Welcome to Derry), Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place, Honey Boy) and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus).
Per an official logline, The Death of Robin Hood follows the titular character, “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder”:
Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last. In the hands of a mysterious woman, he is offered a chance at salvation.
Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett serve as producers on The Death of Robin Hood as part of their Ryder Picture Company banner. Alexander Black for Lyrical Media, Lyrical’s Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers executive produce, alongside Rama Gottumukkala, Sarnoski and Jackman.
Speaking recently with Entertainment Weekly, Sarnoski expanded more on his new take on the Robin Hood mythos and its themes of mortality and crisis:
“He was this murderous outlaw who did a lot of terrible things and was kind of monstrous. But he’s lived long enough to see this folklore get created about him. He’s figuring out how he feels about that, about being portrayed as a hero when he knows what he really was.”
