THE FLY Movie In The Works From NANNY’s Nikyatu Jusu

The new take will be set in the same universe as the Cronenberg body horror classic, but is not a straightforward remake.

Nikyatu Jusu (Nanny, the upcoming Night of the Living Dead remake) is set to direct The Fly, an upcoming body horror based on the David Cronenberg classic of the same name.

Deadline, who reported the news earlier today, detail that sources stress Jusu's The Fly is set in the same universe as the 1986 original, but is not a straightforward remake.

Jusu will direct from her own script for 20th Century Studios and Chernin Entertainment, with Chernin's Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping producing.

Cronenberg's The Fly, which itself was a remake of Kurt Neumann's 1958 horror (based on George Langelaan's 1957 short of the same name), follows Jeff Goldblum as scientist Seth Brundle, whose attempts to create an instant teleportation device go horribly wrong when his DNA is fused with the titular insect. Geena Davis starred as Brundle's girlfriend Ronnie, with Cronenberg himself making a cameo as a gynecologist.

Considered one of the best and most financially successful body horror movies of all time (grossing over $60 million globally) and establishing Cronenberg as a master of the genre, The Fly has stood the test of time and is still a grotesque and tragic watch even today.

Jusu, who is also currently working on an adaptation of her short Suicide by Sunlight for Universal and Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, has been a hotly watched name in horror since her acclaimed feature debut Nanny hit screens back in 2022.

Needless to say, we're pretty intrigued to see what Jusu will cook up with her take on The Fly, and will bring you the updates as we get them.
