This year, Joe Dante’s seminal werewolf film The Howling celebrates its forty-fifth anniversary, and fans now have the chance to watch the movie and reminisce on its influence in the actual forest where it was filmed. On Set Cinema’s latest outing is set to celebrate nearly fifty years of the lycanthropy classic this September, taking fans to the movie’s filming locations inside the woods of Mendocino — but quick, cabins are filling up fast.
Taking place from September 25 to Seotember 27, On Set Cinema’s celebration of The Howling allows guests to stay a full weekend at Mendocino Woodlands State Park Camp in California, the national historic landmark that served as The Colony in the 1981 film. The weekend will be filled with “throwback camp experiences,” including shared cabin lodging, crackling fires, s’mores, hiking adventures, and of course, a screening of the film.
Tickets start at $100 USD per person for a standard two-person cabin, with or without a porch — and without any electricity, air conditioning, or heat for the authentic camping experience. A four-person cabin can also be purchased for $100 USD per person, and one lucky group of six can stay in Karen and Bill’s cabin featured in the movie, for an eye-watering $300 USD per person. (At the very least, this cabin has a bathroom!)
Guests will also be able to visit not only Karen and Bill’s cabin, which was used for exterior shots in the film, but also Eddie and Marsha Quist’s cabin, which used both interiors and exteriors and is the location of one of the film’s most brutal werewolf attacks.
This event celebrating The Howling is just the latest in a long line of events hosted by On-Set Cinema, diving deeper into horror films than any other company. This year, they’re also hosting screenings of the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot, Halloween Kills, The Mothman Prophecies, and Sleepaway Camp, as well as an event for the fiftieth anniversary of The Town That Dreaded Sundown.
