Introducing your partner to your family is never a fun time. Everybody’s anxious and wants to be liked, and social faux pas abound. Add in the concept behind Max’s new horror comedy The Parenting — i.e., a four-hundred-year-old poltergeist possessing said parents — and it all goes to hell in a handbasket. (Literally.) And now, FANGORIA is excited to premiere an exclusive clip from the upcoming film starring Edie Falco, Brian Cox, and more.

While most of the clip is endearing, with Brandon Flynn’s Josh trying to liven things up at a family dinner between his and his partner’s parents by starting a singalong, all is not as cozy as it seems — especially not when, instead of the adorable dog he’d been feeding table scraps to, he’s greeted by a vicious otherworldly hand from under the table at the very end. As if introducing two sets of parents with opposing views wasn’t enough — can anyone say haunted house?

The Parenting also stars Nik Dodani, Lisa Kudrow, Dean Norris, Parker Posey, and Vivian Bang, and is directed by Craig Johnson from a script by Kent Sublette, who’s mostly known for his work as a writer and star on Saturday Night Live. The film’s full logline is as follows:

A hilariously terrifying comedy, THE PARENTING follows young couple Rohan and Josh as they plan a perfect weekend getaway in the country to introduce their parents. As tensions begin to flare between the more traditional Sharon and Frank and the laid-back Liddy and Cliff, the families soon realize that their rental – managed by eccentric local Brenda – is haunted by the presence of a 400-year-old poltergeist. When one parent becomes thoroughly possessed, it’s up to the young couple and their meddlesome BFF Sara to unite the families and stop the evil entity once and for all.

The Parenting premieres on Max on March 13. Check out the exclusive clip below:
