Cannes' Fantastic Pavilion is in full swing, and so is The Séance, You Know Films' first-of-its-kind digital show about the market’s genre film buzz hosted by filmmakers and horror content creators, Blair Bathory and Gigi Saul Guerrero, and partnership from FANGORIA and Paramount Scares.
Next up on The Séance, Gigi, who has made a name for herself behind the camera with Bingo Hell, Satanic Hispanics and V/H/S/85, joined Blair to talk about her first leading role in supernatural horror thrillerTalking to a Stranger (Hablando con Extraños) from Adrián García Bogliano (Late Phases, Here Comes the Devil) and produced by Mexico's Corazón Films.
An original screenplay from García Bogliano, Talking to a Stranger follows Patricia (Guerrero), a grieving mother haunted by a supernatural entity after the tragic loss of her child in a fire. The filmmaker himself calls the horror a “deeply personal and disturbing film”.
Talking with Blair, Gigi reveals more about what horror fans can expect from Talking to a Stranger, calling it “subtle, psychological” and teasing that it is one of Bogliano's best films:
I was really blessed to be on a set where not only was I welcomed as an actor, but also I loved that Adrián was always asking me “what do you think Gigi? What would you do Gigi?” That to me, as a collaborator, as a filmmaker, as a female in this industry… to be welcomed and heard on a set like that – it felt incredible, every step of the way.
With Talking to a Stranger currently seeking distribution at the Marché du Film, we're sure it won't be long before we get to see it.
