In a situation that definitely qualifies as better late than never, two of M. Night Shyamalan’s best movies are finally coming to 4K. Disney has announced that The Sixth Sense and Signs will be coming to digital platforms on 4K beginning Tuesday, August 27. Or, as of this writing, tomorrow. In excellent news for physical media lovers out there, the studio has also confirmed that both films will be arriving on 4K Ultra HD disc beginning October 22. Plan accordingly.
Pre-order details for the physical discs aren’t live just yet, but we should be getting more details regarding special features, pricing, etc. in the not too distant future, so stay tuned. In the meantime, we do have the cover art for these new 4K releases, which you can check out for yourself below. For my money, they leave a little something to be desired, but that’s a matter of personal taste. What really matters here is getting to watch Haley Joel Osment say “I see dead people” in ultra high-definition.

Released in 1999, The Sixth Sense was Shyamalan’s breakthrough feature and remains one of the most successful mainstream horror films of all time. After following that up with Unbreakable, Shyamalan gave us his twist on the alien invasion picture with 2002’s Signs. Not for nothing, it has one of the best jump scares of all time in it. That will be a treat in 4K, no doubt. Disney also included an updated synopsis for each film. In case one needs a refresher, here’s the new one for Sixth Sense:
“When Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Willis), a distinguished child psychologist, meets Cole Sear (Oscar-nominee Haley Joel Osment, Best Supporting Actor), a frightened, confused, eight-year-old, Dr. Crowe is completely unprepared to face the truth of what haunts Cole. With a riveting intensity you’ll find thoroughly chilling, the discovery of Cole’s incredible sixth sense leads them to mysterious places with unforgettable consequences!”
And the new one for Signs reads as follows:”
“From writer/director M. Night Shyamalan, comes the story of the Hess family in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, who wake up one morning to find a 500-foot crop circle in their backyard. Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) and his family are told extraterrestrials are responsible for the sign in their field. They watch, with growing dread, the news of crop circles being found all over the world. SIGNS is the emotional story of one family on one farm as they encounter the terrifying last moments of life as the world is being invaded.”
