Nicolas Cage Invokes The Wrath Of The Locals In THE SURFER Trailer

Lorcan Finnegan's psychological thriller hits theaters on May 2.

When he wasn't busy giving us nightmares as the terrifying Dale Kobble in last year's Longlegs, Nicolas Cage was hangin' ten in The Surfer, the upcoming psychological thriller from director Lorcan Finnegan (Vivarium, Nocebo), with a new trailer today teasing we're in for more classic Cage chaos.

Written by Thomas Martin, The Surfer follows:

“In The Surfer, when a man (Cage) returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, many years since building a life for himself in the U.S., he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local gang of surfers who claim strict ownership over the secluded beach of his childhood. Wounded, The Surfer decides to remain at the beach, declaring war against those in control of the bay. But as the conflict escalates, the stakes spin wildly out of control, taking The Surfer to the edge of his sanity.”

Also starring in The Surfer are Julian McMahon (Fantastic Four), Nic Cassim (Mr Inbetween), Miranda Tapsell (Wolf Creek series), Alexander Bertrand (Australian Gangster), Justin Rosniak (Police Rescue) Rahel Romahn (Streets of Colour) and Charlotte Maggi (Rebel Moon).

An Australian-Irish co-production, The Surfer is produced by Tea Shop Productions, Arenamedia, Lovely Productions and Gramercy Park Media, with support from Australia's Screenwest.

The Surfer crashes into theaters on May 2 from Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions. Watch the brand new trailer below.
