As any good horror fan is surely aware, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, one of the greatest movies of all time (and one we're especially fond of here at FANGORIA), celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year – and to mark the occasion, Dark Sky Films are bringing Tobe Hooper's game-changing classic back to theaters across the country.
The Hooper-supervised 4K restoration will open in over 900 theaters nationwide throughout October. If you've missed one playing near you, fear not, as screenings will continue until the end of the month, with Halloween screenings in certain lucky cities
Per Dark Sky:
50 years ago, five youths on a weekend getaway in the Texas countryside fell prey to a butcher in a mask made of human skin and his cannibalistic family, and horror cinema would never be the same. Violent, confrontational, and shockingly realistic, director Tobe Hooper’s THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE terrified audiences in a way never thought possible when it was unleashed on a politically and socially tumultuous America in 1974. Facing a storm of controversy, censorship, and outcry throughout its troubled release, this masterpiece of horror has stood the test of time to become a landmark motion picture and cultural milestone.
These screenings are the cherry on top of a great year for TCM fans, with Dark Sky Films also blessing us with the absolutely gargantuan The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 50th Anniversary Chainsaw Edition physical media set and Gun Interactive's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game permanently discounted to just $19.99.
