THE POPE'S EXORCIST (2023)

Previously helmed by District 9‘s Neill Blomkamp, alien invasion thriller They Found Us has found a new director in The Pope's Exorcist‘s Julius Avery.

Deadline also reports that previous lead Joel Kinnaman is also no longer attached to star, and that the pic is relocating shooting from Saudi Arabia to Australia.

Plot details for the sci-fi horror feature, written by Moon Knight‘s Jeremy Slater, read as follows:

They Found Us follows a father and daughter who undertake a camping trip in the Utah wilderness to heal their broken relationship. Attacked by a hostile extraterrestrial lifeform, their lives, not just their relationship, are at stake as they fight with a humanoid beast to stop their abduction to an unknown and terrifying alien world.

Looking to shoot in Australia in early 2025, casting for They Found Us is now underway for the film to find a new lead.

Smile's Temple Hill will produce They Found Us. Speaking previously with Variety, Temple Hill's Wyck Godfrey had this to say:

“The otherworldly horror and breathless suspense at the center of Jeremy’s script is merely the backdrop for an all too relatable and emotional story of a father and teenage daughter grappling with their differences and working through their estrangement.”

We'll bring you more updates on the ever-changing They Found Us as we get them.
