Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Wayans, aka the Wayans Brothers, are set to return for the upcoming reboot of the Scary Movie franchise over at Miramax and Paramount, Deadline tells us today.

Deadline also report that the new Scary Movie will start shooting next year for a theatrical release of what will be the sixth Scary Movie in the series.

The original Scary Movie series was developed by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, with Keenen Ivory Wayans writing and directing the first two films, Scary Movie (2000) and Scary Movie 2 (2001). Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans also wrote and starred in the first two films. A defining horror comedy of the early aughts, the Scary Movie franchise originally ran for five movies, grossing a grand total of around $896 million worldwide. The series spoofed everything from classic slashers like Scream to J-horrors like Ring and Ju-On

Speaking to Deadline, the Brothers expressed their excitement at returning to craft a new original screenplay:

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

Miramax Boss Jonathan Glickman adds:

“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

Scary Movie is part of Paramount Pictures’ first look deal with Miramax.  Miramax is the studio behind the franchise and Paramount Pictures is releasing worldwide.

Of course, now the Wayans Brothers are back on board, we just need the iconic duo of Anna Faris' Cindy and Regina Hall's Brenda to confirm their return too. Fingers crossed!
