After some creepy hints that we could be looking at another horror movie set in the same world as Barbarian, Warner Bros. has dropped the first official teaser for Zach Cregger's Weapons, thankfully keeping a lot still in the dark ahead of its August 8 release date.
Starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams (also set to lead Cregger's upcoming Resident Evil reboot), Amy Madigan, and June Diane Raphael, Weapons has previously been described as a “multi-story horror epic” following the fallout of a group of kids who mysteriously disappear overnight at exactly 2:17am.
Originally slated for release in January 2026, the R-ratedWeapons was bumped up to a summer release, demonstrating a keen amount of confidence from Warner Bros. (Barbarian grossed $45.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $4.5 million).
First footage of the pic from CinemaCon was described as “batshit insane” and “deeply unsettling”, and, yeah, we can certainly see that. While today's first teaser doesn't give a whole lot away, there's an eerie air of uncanniness the way these kids are gleefully running into the dark. What's waiting for them in the shadows? We'll have to wait and find out.
