Who doesn’t love a good alien horror film? Ridley Scott proved that they could be cornerstones of the genre, and now, VFX legend Alec Gillis is bringing yet another one of our screens. FANGORIA is excited to premiere an exclusive clip from Wellwood, a new sci-fi horror featuring Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes, now that the film is available on digital and on demand.
Shot in New Orleans, Wellwood stars Reid Collums, who also wrote the film’s script, and is directed by Eliza Hooper. Gillis not only serves as executive producer on the film but also provided all of its practical effects, bringing his decades of experience on franchises like Alien and Predator to the film’s rather unique alien creatures. The film’s logline is as follows:
When Laura Harper (Camille Balsamo-Gillis) is diagnosed with a terminal illness, her husband Nick (Reid Collums) becomes desperate to save her. His search leads to the discovery of an extraterrestrial entity that he believes holds the key to her cure. However, their actions soon attract the attention of local law enforcement, including the sharp-eyed Deputy Gracie Marsh (Keisha Castle-Hughes) and the town’s steadfast leader, Sheriff Bradley (Lance E. Nichols). As the couple’s choices unravel, they find themselves entangled in a web of consequences beyond their control.
The clip features Collums experimenting on the alien, a calm, relatively small blue creature who seems more intrigued by his presence than anything. When he slices his palm open, things look dire, but he soon discovers that the creature’s blood can heal human wounds, which might turn out to be the saving grave he and his wife desperately need.
“Fans of sci-fi horror are in for something special with Wellwood,” says Keith Leopard, President of Uncork’d Entertainment. “The film delivers a tense, emotional story with incredible performances and top-tier practical effects from the legendary team at studioADI. We’re excited for audiences to experience it when it debuts this April.”
