Those wishing to keep the titular monster of Leigh Whannell's upcoming Wolf Man a surprise, stop reading here.

Per the brand new clip seen below via the officialWolf Man X/Twitter account, Universal and Blumhouse seem to have abandoned any Nosferatu and Longlegs-esque marketing techniques by revealing Christopher Abbot's transformation into a werewolf, ahead of the film's January 17 release date.

The new trailer showcases the film's gnarly, The Fly-inspired practical FX from SFX designer Arjen Tuiten, while also taking cues from classic werewolf movies like An American Werewolf in London (Tuiten cites Rick Baker as a key influence!)

Starring Christopher Abbott (Sanctuary, Poor Things), Julia Garner (Apartment 7A) and Matilda Firth (Starve Acre), the R-rated Wolf Man follows the fallout of husband and father who is attacked by a mysterious animal on the grounds of the family's rural Oregon farmhouse:

Abbott stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Garner), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Firth).

But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.

Why Universal and Blumhouse chose to reveal the creature so close to the release date is a mystery to this particular writer, but, hey, I'm no marketing expert.
