Yellowjackets has officially been renewed for a fourth season at Paramount+ with Showtime, according to news from Variety today.
Variety notes that the exact start date for production on the new season will be announced soon, with today's news coming roughly one month after the horror-drama series' Season 3 finale.
Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets has proved a huge hit for Showtime, scoring a bunch of Emmy nominations and becoming the second-most streamed series in Showtime's historybehind Dexter: New Blood. The series stars Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Sophie Thatcher, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Elijah Wood, Simone Kessell, Warren Kole, Lauren Ambrose Sophie Nélisse, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Steven Krueger, Kevin Alves and Sarah Desjardins, with Season 3 adding Hilary Swank and Community‘s Joel McHale. The series follows a team of high school girls soccer players and their attempts to survive in the wilderness after a devastating plane crash, and the residual trauma left over almost 25 years later.
Paramount officially confirmed that Yellowjackets‘ third season was the most-watched one of the show to date, with the finale marking the most-watched episode in series history. A series renewal should really come as a shock to nobody.
Per Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios:
“‘Yellowjackets’ has become a cultural juggernaut, with season three shattering all previous records – we are thrilled to announce its renewal for a season four on Paramount+ […] Ashley and Bart have masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon— a perfect alchemy of psychological horror, survival thriller, and coming-of-age drama that continues to captivate audiences worldwide, brought to life by our extraordinarily talented and beloved cast.”
Look out for all the Yellowjackets Season 4 updates as they buzz in!
