If you've got zombies on the brain thanks to the success of 28 Years Later, an iconic Italian horror is soon to be streaming in gloriously gory 4K to scratch that itch, as Lucio Fulci's Zombie Flesh Eaters (aka Zombi 2) hits Arrow Player on July 28.
Arrow's HD streaming debut of Zombie Flesh Eaters coincides with the physical media edition also releasing on July 28, which comes stacked with a bunch of special features including commentaries, visual essays, documentaries, archival interviews and more.
Starring Tisa Farrow, Ian McCulloch and Al Cliver, Zombie Flesh Eaters was initially billed as a sequel to Dawn of the Dead, following a re-edited European version of the George A. Romero classic. The film follows a scientist's daughter who journeys to a cursed Caribbean island after her father's boat turns up abandoned in New York City – as you can guess, it's not all sun, sand and swimming with dolphins (although the film does feature the notorious shark vs zombie fight…)
Upon release in 1980, the United Kingdom's BBFC considered the zombie horror to be in breach of the Obscene Publications Act (most likely due to the iconic eye gouging scene), thus landing it the legendary “video nasty” label alongside other horror classics such as Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Deep Red and The Hills Have Eyes.
