Ahead of the release of his upcoming horror The Woman in the Yard, Deadline has reported that Jaume Collet-Sera (House of Wax, Carry-On) is set to direct Play Dead, a survival thriller described as Don’t Breathe meets 1917.
Peter Stanley-Ward and Natalie Conway of Treehouse Digital are on script duties, although Deadline reports that further plot details are currently under wraps.
Deadline also let us know that Nocturnal is fully financing the project and producing alongside Sam Raimi‘s Ghost House Pictures, BoulderLight Pictures, and Bad Grey, with production to kick off at NantStudios in Docklands Studios Melbourne in May.
Plot details may be under wraps, but looking at the reported inspirations we can maybe summon a guess in the general direction. Fede Alvarez's Don't Breathe followed three home invaders who find themselves at the mercy of Stephen Lang's terrifying Blind Man, while Sam Mendes' 1917 stars George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman as two British soldiers in World War I attempting to call off a doomed offensive attack.
So, could Play Dead be a home invasion horror set during the terrors of WW1? Only time will tell.
