Some of our favorite writers, filmmakers and performers are getting together to create a sci-fi/horror/dark comedy/suspense anthology film called Deepest, Darkest, and today we’re thrilled to exclusively announce that friend of Fango David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil, The Boogeyman, The Last Voyage of the Demeter and a whole lot more) is coming onboard as Executive Producer!
Spearheaded by Marc Bernardin (Castle Rock, Star Trek: Picard, Batman: Caped Crusader), Deepest, Darkest asks, “Have you ever had a secret? One so big, so awful, so horrifically extreme that you had no choice but to keep it to yourself… What if there was someone whose job it was to listen to those secrets – because she could never remember them? What would you pay for absolution?”
Here's a little bit more about Deepest, Darkest:
DEEPEST, DARKEST is an anthology that weaves together stories of horror, suspense, dark comedy, and edgy science fiction, each revolving around that most human of impulses: the keeping of secrets. Our central character is Tara [Tiffany Smith], a survivor of a devastating accident who now suffers from short-term memory loss — and who makes ends meet by hiring herself out as sort of a freelance confessionist.
Over the course of these eight chapters, we'll examine that part of the human condition we keep closest to the vest. Guilt. Damage. Pain. And how through the telling of these stories we might exorcise that pain. Oh, and Tara will find herself in mortal danger. A lot.
Dastmalchian tells us of joining Deepest, Darkest:
The secrets we keep, the shame we bury, is a horror and dread that everyone can relate to and has haunted us at one point or another. These shadows and skeletons within inevitably unearth themselves, breaking through the soil of our consciousness and stalk us like so many flesh-dripping zombies. As a long-time fan and friend of Marc Bernardin, I’m grateful to be helping this gifted storyteller and wonderful human as he assembles a talented team of artists to tell these tales.
Bernardin adds:
Not only is David one of the nicest guys on the planet, but he’s a genre fan through and through and knows as much about it as anyone — having been a nerd from way back and getting to work with some of the genre’s masters. To have him as part of our brain trust is a dream.
It was important to us to lean into the extreme corridors of the human experience. The stuff we’d never tell anyone. So, while there’s a dark comedy chapter and a sexy-sexy chapter and a science fiction chapter, we go hard on the horror: supernatural, grisly, existential. Deepest, Darkest is a collection of storytellers trying to plant some nightmare seeds.
Bernardin co-created Deepest, Darkest with star Tiffany Smith (Supernatural), and the anthology will feature genre-hopping segments directed by Bernardin, Kevin Avery (Last Week Tonight), Sujata Day (Definition Please), Deric A. Hughes & Benjamin Raab (Arrowverse), Lamont Magee (Black Lightning), Ubah Mohamed (Avatar: The Last Airbender), and Latoya Morgan (The Walking Dead). Akela Cooper of M3GAN and Malignant infamy shares Executive Producer duties with Dastmalchian, so he’s in very good company. Smith will be joined onscreen by such legends as Ernie Hudson, Phil LaMarr, Raymond Lee and more.
Deepest, Darkest is currently in the crowdfunding stage, which means you can pitch in! If you want to help this outrageously stacked team make Deepest, Darkest a reality, back the project HERE.
