Heads up, Freddy Fazbear fans! Blumhouse and Universal Pictures have released a new trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 ahead of its theatrical release next month. On that front, tickets for the much-anticipated sequel are on sale now. Given that this is expected to be one of the biggest horror movies of the year, those who want to see it on opening weekend might do well to plan ahead. For now though, check out the new trailer below.
So yeah, in some ways, a bit of the same. In other ways, it looks like director Emma Tammi and Blumhouse went bigger this time around. It also appears to be amping up the scary factor, which can only be a plus. We’ve got new characters such as Toy Freddy, carnage out in the real world and even a little Scream reunion between Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard. How fun is that? As for what the sequel is about? Here is the official synopsis:
“One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest.
Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends.
But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.”
Now, about those movie tickets. Various theater chains and ticketing services are running promotions around the release. Fandango is offering a Faztalker Fright Bucket Bundle that includes a Faztalker Popcorn Bucket along with their Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie ticket for $50.00, plus shipping. The popcorn bucket craze rages on! Fandango also has a deal where you can get 1 ticket free (equal or lesser price, with up to $15 ticket price and fees) with code DGAFNAF2.
Elsewhere, Cinemark has a “super ticket package” for $35 that includes a mini poster, popcorn tin, medium drink and collectible gold coin set, along with a ticket. Theaters are treating this like a big deal and fans have options. One would do well to look into what other local and national chains have to offer.
The first Five Nights at Freddy’s made nearly $300 million at the box office, becoming Blumhouse’s biggest movie ever. That was despite the fact that it also released on Peacock the same day it hit theaters. Universal decided to go full theatrical this time around, but they are keeping the sequel PG-13. If it ain’t broke, why fix it? In all likelihood, this will wind up as the middle chapter in a planned trilogy, if we’re operating on a certain level of presumed success.
Also starring in the sequel will be Josh Hutcherson, Piper Rubio, Elizabeth Lail, Freddy Carter, Theodus Crane, Wayne Knight and Mckenna Grace. Scott Cawthon, who created the video games, penned the screenplay for the sequel.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 hits theaters on December 5. For more, check out the retro fun offered up in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit.
